Risk Management and Running Shoes

It’s widely accepted today that #Data is one of our most valuable resources. Every decision we make — big or small — relies on information derived from data. Even something as simple as getting up in the morning and putting on my running shoes 😄

Of course, this idea isn’t new. Since the dawn of humanity, people have made decisions based on information passed through community, tradition, and accumulated knowledge.

But today, as we’re surrounded by endless sources of data, the challenge has changed. This abundance enables richer exploration — yet it also makes finding reliable information far more complex. And when the source of data isn’t clear, the risk in our decisions increases — sometimes slightly, sometimes critically.

So, what tools can help us reduce these risks?

The field of #DataIntegrity offers a timeless compass — the #ALCOA+ principles. They remind us to look at the basics: What is the source of the information? Is it attributable, legible, complete, accurate, and traceable?

Once we become aware of our own patterns of risk assessment and decision-making, we can apply them more effectively — in our personal lives, and in any organization that relies on data-driven decisions.

And in my case — the person who convinced me to go running is a very reliable source 😉 The margin of error and risk? Extremely low.

Because at the end of the day — Data Integrity is intuitive. It’s not just a regulatory concept — it’s a way of thinking, and a way of life.
